What we do Projects Environmental Education Our Events & Activities Over the past couple of years we have benefited from having an Education Ranger who has been available to provide engagement, activities and events across the Islands for both residents and visitors in a variety of ways; whether through guided nature walks, sessions within the nursery/school setting or for community groups or through the setting up of self-guided trails, amongst other things. Sadly, as a result of Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions, our Education Ranger post has become unworkable. With our Island Charity unable to run our nature based events and activities in a safe and meaningful way; either for attendees or for us as a Charity. We have had to make some tough decisions regarding our small team and have re-deployed our Education Ranger back to our Estate Ranger Team; in an effort to avoid staff redundancies and ensure our team is well looked after in these difficult times. Consequently we have cancelled and will no longer be running Education Ranger led activities and events, as we have done. Any events and activities that we are able to run will be advertised here, so please do check back; but it is likely with changing Government guidance and restrictions that there will be last minute changes and/or cancellations so please do bear with us. Thank you for your understanding and support Here you'll find a little information about the types of events that we run, if you want to find out what is actually on offer and when then visit our Events & Activities Page Wildlife Safaris - The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust team up with St Agnes Boating to bring you Wildlife Safaris every Wednesday; departing from St Agnes Quay at 13:00 from April through to September. Trips usually take in the Western Rocks where we expect to see Puffins, Manx shearwaters, Guillemots, Razorbills, Shags and Fulmars, Dolphins, Porpoise, Sunfish, Seals & much more (during the breeding season). You will also discover the fascinating world of Marine Plastics and learn about the work that the Trust is doing to clean up Scilly's beaches as well as the debris effect on our wildlife. Community Archaeology Group (CAG) - The CAG is an informal group of local people who carry out practical archaeological clearance work around the Islands. Supported by the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust (thanks in part to Isles of Scilly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Funding), the group meets each month and welcomes visitors to help at events. The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust is responsible for looking after a number of Scheduled Ancient Monuments (currently keeping around 44 clear and accessible each year across the Islands, with more being added to the list all of the time). With some great successes in recent years where monuments under our care have been removed from the Heritage At Risk Register, including Works Carn on Bryher in 2018. Move Scilly - We work closely with Move Scilly to facilitate events for local families; encouraging them to get more active, and be more active, together. Although some of these events are "closed" events, many are open to the public so anyone can join in. Move Scilly events will be clearly promoted as such and may be slightly different from our "normal" events, as there will be elements of activity for attendees to join in on too; whether that's star jumps at low tide events, touching your toes on Insect Safaris or racing on our Rock Trails. Don't let it put you off there will still be plenty of nature-filled fun; whether you're a big kid or you've got little ones to entertain!
