The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust is a registered charity (charity number 1097807) and a company limited by guarantee (company number 04726698)

The charity is independently governed by a board of voluntary trustees and is run by a professional staff team based on St Mary's.  We pride ourselves in our expertise, knowledge and experience.  We are committed to what we do and the quality of what we achieve. We operate efficiently, flexibly and aim to be carbon-neutral.

We are members of the Wildlife Trust's movement and pay a small annual subscription or "levy" to a central charity (Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts) which provides some limited services such as collective national campaigns and government lobbying. There is no "Head Office" as each Wildlife Trust is an independently governed charity.  The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust staff and trustees benefit from being part of this movement as we can share knowledge, skills and ideas.

As a registered charity we are governed by Charity Commission rules and regulations; each year we produce a Statement of Accounts which is certified by an independent examiner (auditor) and we have a 5 year Strategic Plan.

The Duchy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust

The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust leases 2000 hectares of land from the Duchy of Cornwall on a 99 year, fully insuring and repairing tenancy.  The Trust does not pay rent on the lease, receives no financial support and is not linked in any way constitutionally to the Duchy of Cornwall.  The Duchy views the Trust as a tenant, as it does any other farm/land tenant in Scilly, Cornwall or anywhere else on its extensive UK landholding.

The tenancy restricts the Trust's use of the land to nature conservation activities and general public access as long as it does not negatively affect the nature conservation activities and value of the land.
