Income from legacies can be transformational to a charity like ours. Once you have taken care of family and friends, please do consider remembering Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust in your Will.

Helpful information

There are 3 different types of legacies:

1. Pecuniary bequest – this is where you leave a specific sum of money.

2. Specific bequest – this is when you choose to gift a special item such as a painting, piece of furniture or your home.

3. Residual bequest – this is the residue of your estate, what’s left over after you have looked after family and friends and all costs have been met.

Legacies free from any restrictions are the most preferable to the Trust as they can be directed to areas of work that are most in need at that time.

Making your Will

If you don’t already have a Will, talking to your solicitor would be the first thing to do. Using a solicitor to write your Will ensures it is legally correct and that all your wishes are carried out. Your solicitor will help you calculate the value of your estate, choose the type of legacy to leave and choose your executors.

Updating your Will

If you would like to include a gift to the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust in your existing Will, you will need to contact your solicitor and instruct them that you would like the gift to be added to your Will. They will add this request to your existing Will by what is called a Codicil. You can add more than one Codicil to your Will.
