We all know that the Isles of Scilly are so special. The beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife are a joy to anyone lucky enough to live or work here, or who visits on holiday. We are determined to keep our islands special for everyone and for wildlife, encouraging species to thrive and protecting our wild habitats. That’s why we need your help. Any amount that you can donate to our Keep Scilly Special appeal will make a huge difference to our work, saving special species and protecting our unique heritage.

We look after around half of the islands, managing around 700 hectares of coast, heath and wetland so our diverse wildlife – such as grey seals, seabirds, bats and rare plants – can thrive. Every year we clear 85km of paths so that visitors and local people can access these spectacular wild places. This year, we have worked with 200 local children.

The need for our work is enormous. We’ve faced unexpected challenges this year, including leading the community response to bird flu as hundreds of dead gannets washed up, and clearing up an oil spill in the pond at Porthloo. We are proud of how much we have achieved together, but there is so much more we would like to do.

Nature is under threat around the world – here as much as anywhere else. Your donations will allow us to move forward with confidence, achieving more than ever before for wildlife and people in Scilly. Your support will help us:

  • Manage our beautiful landscapes for everyone’s benefit.
  • Monitor Scilly’s most iconic species so we can prevent extinctions.
  • Work with local farmers to create space for nature on their farms.
  • Ensure every child in Scilly values local wildlife and wants to protect it.
  • Build resilience within the Trust so that we can respond to new environmental crises.

We are an small, independent charity, entirely reliant on grants and donations. Giving to our appeal will ensure that your money benefits the wildlife and wild places we all rely on and treasure.

Ranger Darren Hart has worked for the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust for fourteen years. He said, "I love working as a Ranger for the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust. I started in 2009, so I’ve been doing this for nearly 14 years. Over that time, I’ve been involved in a lot of fantastic work for people and wildlife. I still enjoy my job because of the big difference we make to the islands. Over the years I have seen huge amounts of frogspawn appear in ponds we’ve dug. After dusk I’m often found recording bats foraging amongst willow we’ve coppiced. All that time we spent knocking back coarse vegetation on Tëan led to our rediscovery of the dwarf pansy there. In fact, I’ve seen our Ranger team give endless benefits for a wealth of flowers, fungi and lichen species. I’m also very proud of our recycled plastic boardwalks, including each post I’ve personally hammered into the ground. These are just a few examples from my memory of what we’ve been able to do."

Steve Backshall, Wildlife Presenter & Ambassador for the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust said, "Over the last few years, the Isles of Scilly have become incredibly important to my family and I. It's the one place we feel we can be transported back in time to the way the United Kingdom used to be. We really want to keep it that way. We want to keep Scilly special. If the Isles of Scilly have given you something special, it's your chance to give something back."
